"ACTIVE BIRTH" IN TURKEY - May 2010

In May, Janet Balaskas, Childbirth Educator and Birth Actitivist, Founder of the Active Birth Movement, brought Yoga for Active Birth to Turkey.

Janet is a well-known pioneer of the use of upright positions in labour and her approach to helping women choose more helpful birthing positions takes her all over the world. She has written many books on the subject, such as

"The New Active Birth - A concise Guide to Natural Childbirth"

"The Waterbirth Book"

Janet studied HypnoBirthing last year in Turkey and is now adds HypnoBirthing courses to her already busy schedule of courses in Active Birth.  Dr Hakan Coker, a champion of normal, natural birthing in Turkey (where the casarean rate can approach 90%), invited Janet to teach a large class of which I was one. I learned a great deal about the effect of a woman's position on her ease of birthing her baby.

More of Janet's work can be seen on her website:

Although much of Dr Coker's website is in Turkish, some interesting photographs of Janet's course  can be viewed on:

HYPNOBIRTHING FOR FERTILITY PRACTITIONER TRAINING IN BRIGHTON - June 2010

Marie Mongan, Founder of HypnoBirthing - The Mongan Method, came from the USA with Sherry Gilbert, who devised and taught the new syllabus for "HypnoBirthing Fertility Therapist" training.  The course was well attended by hypnotherapists taking the course or the first time and others, like myself, who were updating their training.

It was a wonderful opportunity to meet with Marie ("Mickey") and Sherry who have brought HypnoBirthing to so many countries worldwide and who now are helping those who have difficulty in conceiving to have more hope that they can have a baby.

The mind-body approach has been shown in research to increase a couples chance of becoming pregnant  - when used alone or when used in conjunction with other methods.

 BOOK REVIEW

Men......

....do you wonder why your wife/girfriend/ partner remembers an argument or disagreement you don't even remember happening?

....do you wonder why she has difficulty knowing which wayto turn when she is looking at a map in front of her?

Women.....

.....do you get frustrated when he says something which upsets you and he doesn't even seem to notice?

......are you upset when he can't remember the details of a special time you spent together?

Parents......

......do you notice that boys and girls behave differently in play, and that boys tend to be more active and girls tend to talk more?

...do you notice that boys tend to take more risks than girls?

I use the word "tend" as we are talking tendencies.  However, it is now clear that the brain has a "sex".

Did you know that the foetus is gender neutral at 6 weeks?

If you want to find out more about this fascinating subject - one which can explain many more differences in male and female  brains, there are a few really interesting books to read.

"BrainSex" by Prof. Anne Moir and David Jessel is now unfortunately out of print, but still is fascinating and highly .  It can be obtained from Amazon.

More recently, "The Female Brain" and "The Male Brain" by Louann Brizendine, MD has tapped into research which is a little more up to date.

If you want to extend your reading in this topic, you cn also try "Why Men Don't Iron" by Anne and Bill Moir.

Happy Reading!!!!!!!
